5 Simple Maintenance Tips to Keep Your Concrete Saw in Tip-Top Shape

A concrete saw takes care of cutting tasks that ordinary saws cannot. As the name implies, this piece of construction equipment is basically designed for cutting hard objects like concrete, asphalt, tiles, and bricks. But because of the nature of the work they do, concrete cutting tools take a lot of abuse. Fortunately, however, proper care and maintenance of your saws will go a long way in ensuring they remain usable and reliable for more years to come. Here are some tips to help you maintain this vital piece of construction equipment.

Tip No 1: Keep them clean. The sawing process and water combine to create a slurry mixture that coats the side of your saw. If left unattended, it could damage the equipment. As such, after a day's work, you should clean the concrete cutting saw. You can use a pressure washer or hose to remove the build-up and keep the equipment as good as new.

Tip No 2: Keep them lubricated. According to experts, a little lubrication goes a long away. Therefore, you should also make it a point to lubricate the blade shaft bearings of your concrete saw after each and every use. However, you shouldn't overdo it. Experts said over-greasing can blow out the bearing seal of the equipment and ruin the bearing itself so be mindful of the amount of lubricant you apply on the saw.

Tip No 3: Check oil levels. As with keeping the blades clean with a hose or pressure washer, oil levels should be checked regularly, particularly if the saw runs on petrol. In case you're using the saw for dry cutting, you may need to change oil more frequently than you would with wet cutting because of the ingestion of dust in the engine.

Tip No 4: Use the right blades. Ensuring that you have the right blade for the job is one of the best ways to keep your concrete saw in tip-top shape. Whether you're going to use the equipment to cut slabs of concrete or for removal of tile, see to it that the right blade is attached. Also, make sure that the blade is tight and in good condition before using the equipment.

Tip No 5: Maintain the air cleaner. Whenever you use the concrete saw, dust can get stuck into the air cleaners. If you fail to remove all the accumulated dust, it can get tougher for the belts and bearings. Therefore, experts recommended performing maintenance on the air cleaners on a daily basis, especially if you frequently use the saw for dry cutting.
