Taking Care of Your Concrete Saw

Construction tools and machinery (such as a concrete saw, dumper, etc) can work in harsh environments, but they are still prone to damage.  Whether you are a professional construction worker or a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) home improvement junkie, it is important to value the tools you use care for them (especially your trusted concrete-cutting saw). Take these tips to ensure that your power tool is constantly in great condition.

Tip No 1: Maintain the cleanliness of your saw. Sounds fairly simple right? However, once you neglect the machine (for instance, if you used it in  a demolition project and did not clean it) the possibility of it breaking down increases. A wipe over is in order to remove any residue that might have stocked up on the machine.

Tip No 2: Keep the Saw’s Blade Shaft Bearings Greased. Lubricating the shaft bearings after using a concrete saw helps maintain the tool’s condition. However, do not overdo it because it might damage the bearings' seal and affect the overall state of the machine.

Tip No 3: Daily Inspection of Oil Levels and Maintaining the Proper Tension of the Belt Shaft are a Must. Dry cutting involves frequent oil change because of the higher amount of dust it takes in compared to wet cutting. So keep an eye out for that to evade any damage to the concrete saw. Also when using new blades, it is advisable to run them for an hour and then tighten the belt once more. Over-tightening is not encouraged because damages might occur on the belts and bearings. The blades can severely vibrate if the belt slips, which can result in the impairment of the saw’s frame, decrease the quality of the blade, and ultimately wear of the parts of the machine.

Tip No 4: Be Mindful of the Blade. This is one of the major parts of the concrete saw and one should be knowledgeable in handling and caring for it. Know the right blades to use for doing tasks, such as cutting asphalt, brick, cured concrete, etc, and the cutting speed when using the machine. The belt and the blade goes hand-in-hand and they are the vital pieces in the saw’s performance so if you notice the belt slipping which could affect the cutting speed remedy it as soon as possible. Damages to your saw will cease to exist once you follow these efficient tips.
